If you belong to those who went to a school then, beyond the feelings of joy and euphoria, you have begun the first steps in this new student life, which will definitely determine you for the next few years. In addition to some formal and bureaucratic procedures, you will definitely deal with others much more pleasantly, such as finding a home and furnishing it or buying the necessary electronic equipment.
Especially for the second one, you will see a guide with information on what to look after and how to buy (comparative sizes, instructions and what suits each student). Besides, most students choose laptop (portable) for transportation purposes, and this computer will not only be a tool for the school, but also an entertainment center in general for a variety of tasks such as movies, music, video games, and so on. you are always careful with your choice of financial options!
Size, Weight and Portability
One of the first things to look for is size. The largest and most popular category, but also the one that meets most needs is the 15.6-inch screen laptop. Anything bigger (eg 17 inches) loses portability, but it suits special classes of students, such as graphic designers. Anything smaller usually does not fit for tasks that have many elements on the screen, such as programming (especially in visual environments), but they are certainly more portable as systems.
Along with the dimensions of the screen, the thickness of the computer is also very important, but also the total weight (shown on the shopping cards or on the company website). Obviously, the heavier the more difficult and tiring in transport. Conversely, the lighter the more convenient, but also usually more expensive due to more careful construction!
In addition, portability also depends on the quality of the battery and this is yet another element to be checked. In the 15.6-inch class, the batteries are pretty much the same, and the savings depend on how each manufacturer chooses to manage the energy for the subsystems that make up (such as the graphics card and the processor). Generally, pay special attention to the battery especially if you want to work with your laptop in open spaces where it is not easy to find a socket.
Quality of Construction and Finishing
Because you will spend a lot of time over your laptop, it has to offer you the ergonomics you need, that is to have a comfortable keyboard, a handy touchpad, and it suits you in touch and use, but also aesthetically pleasing to your eye as we say! So, even if you want to order online, it's wise to check the computers that interest you near a store show. There you will see all the details that make the difference. For example, the keys may not suit you because the layout is narrower or the buttons do not have the feedback and feel you want.
Additionally, the overall manufacturing quality and finishing are not just the aesthetic piece but they also give you details on the durability, durability and wear that the laptop will have in the long run. Obviously, the plastic is different from aluminum or magnesium in the construction. In particular, they affect size and weight, but also noise and resistance to ambient temperature. Of course, the best materials cost more, but if you have the chance to give something more for a better manufacturing quality, no dimensions and you will see that you will not regret it.
Processor
It is one of the most important subsystems that determine significant value and performance. The truth is that all processors are now able to satisfy demanding tasks, with the exception of games, some multimedia editing applications, and some highly specialized simulation-simulation programs. For the average student an Intel i3 (or AMD A6) will be a very good choice, while for the more demanding we go to i5 or i7. For reasons of not performance but only price, you can look at a laptop with Celeron or Pentium processors if all you want is to surf and write texts.
RAM
In RAM you will notice that it is at least 4 GB. Obviously, the more memory the computer has the better. Especially for very good performance in multimedia and games, the memory must be at least 8 GB!
Hard Drive
As with RAM, the phrase the more capacity, the better. Logically, a 1 TB disk will completely cover you in the first instance, although you may need for ease of use and back up an external hard yet.
But there is a detail that greatly affects performance. In recent years, so-called SSDs have also appeared. The difference in their construction from the "classic" (HDD) allows them to be much faster, but smaller in capacity. Note that over the past two years (and this technology has grown), SSD drives now have capacities that exceed 512 GB without being too expensive. Generally, for performance reasons, it preferred a SSD-based system and if you are also interested in the capacity issue, take one extra hard drive.
Graphics Card
The graphics card is mainly about those who want to play demanding video games. Generally the rule is as follows: the built-in (motherboard) graphics cards are cheaper, but technologically inferior in performance. "Independents" always offer better performance, but the cost is rising. Two are the main manufacturers, AMD and NVIDIA with chips (GPUs) for each user and price. They even have their own independent memory for the graphics module (similar to logic as a processor with RAM). So, we could say that if this memory is at 2 GB you can play most games (though technologically a bit more complex).
Screen
Beyond the dimensions mentioned above, if the laptop is intended for gaming, high definition video playback, or for creative work, the screen is a 1920 x 1080 pixel (Full HD) resolution. At the same time, we monitor both the viewing angle and the ability to connect HD TVs via the appropriate HDMI (HDMI) connectors.
Other Subsystems
So, since you have the basic elements of the laptop, it is good to check and some details on the other subsystems. Specifically, the many ports and especially the existence of many USB suites. Also, see if they have some USB Type-C ports that are the latest development on USB ports. Then, look to support the latest Wi-Fi version, called 802.11ac, because it offers higher speeds with the right router. Additionally, many laptops no longer offer support for reading and recording not only for Blu-Ray but also for "humble" DVDs / CDs, that is, support for optical discs is missing! If this is important for you, do not miss it.
Peripherals
As a student you should definitely see the following peripherals: mouse, fan base for portable, multifunction machine (printer and scanner together) and extra storage media. Note that this is not a huge cost, but rather a practical investment.
More specifically, a good and ergonomic mouse will not only make you more comfortable but will protect you from injuries and fatigue (especially if you work long hours and you already have issues like carpal tunnel syndrome). Whether it's wireless or wired is probably a matter of taste and honor.
Especially in Greece that have intense summers and generally good climate with high temperatures, the basis is for the laptop is necessary. This is because the fans on the base will cool your system and give it a rewarding extra good operating space, since it will protect it from overheating. The values are now low, but the noise levels (ie below 25 dB) are also low.
Additionally, the multi-machine tool for a student is a necessary tool for work. Plus, there are wireless multifunction devices with Wi-Fi support. But beware of inks, whose purchase can overcome the cost of buying the machine in the long run! That's why you advise the seller or see the cost per page and the amount of pages to print.
Finally, buying a USB stick for fast file transfer and an external hard drive for extra space and back up is essential. Besides, the cost is small. Just be careful to support the USB 3.0 standard and if possible for security reasons to offer free encryption software.
Operating system
The majority of handhelds on the market have Windows preinstalled, which is the most functional and most convenient operating system. If you are a fan of Windows, prefer the 10th edition for support purposes. Although there are portable ones that are not operational ready for use, it's wise to know if you are not familiar with computers for convenience to avoid them.
But for a little different needs there are also Linux configurations on the market. Linux is not just for special audiences, and it's a bit 'misunderstood' about ease of use. However, if you are studying Computer Science, dealing with Networking or Security and Programming then you have to deal with Linux.
